Navel orange is a seedless orange which has a globular to slightly oval shape. Although it has a thicker waxy skin, it is easy to peel and section. The flesh is sweet and juicy with spongy white pith which can be easily peeled. These fresh navel oranges are packed with lots of beneficial vitamins, and it keeps your skin and heart healthy.


Before storing the navel orange, make sure it is dry outside to avoid rotten due to excessive moisture. Unripe navel orange (has a little green in them) can be stored at room temperature until it starts to ripen. If you are planning to store navel orange that is already ripe for a longer time, place it in the fridge, it will last up to 2 weeks.

Ways to eat/use navel orange

Can be eaten as it is, made into juice, used in marinade, etc.

Why is it called Navel Orange?

The name is from the mutation at the bottom blossom end of the orange, which looks like a human navel, or bellybutton.

What is the difference between Grapefruit and Navel Orange?

Grapefruit and Navel Orange are similar in many ways, they are both round and have almost the same skin colour. About the size, grapefruit tends to be larger than regular orange but quite similar to navel orange. They are still different in many ways. Grapefruit has a slightly bitter flavour, while navel orange is refreshingly sweet in flavour. Other than that, navel orange is slightly richer in protein, carbohydrates, calories, sugars and fiber. It also contains more Vitamins and minerals but grapefruit has a higher level of Vitamin A.

What is the difference between Navel Orange and regular orange?

The distinguishable difference is their size which navel orange is bigger than regular orange. Besides the appearance, Navel orange is simply quite sweet, while regular orange has a tangy sweetness. There are no big difference on nutrition values between them but Navel orange has higher sugar in the same serving size. Navel orange is good for making salad as it is seedless, and regular orange is the best for juicy due to it contains more fluid. Juice made from Navel orange turns bitter within half an hour. If you are buying orange as a healthy snack, both are awesome choices.”
